This fall I have been teaching chemistry 20, science 9 math 20 and a woodshop class to the junior high kids who chose that option. It has been a busy but fun beginning of the year. It started off a little stressful, due to illness and not getting the few days of PD before classes begun (less time to prep things, including my room). But that ship has passed...
For my growth plan this year, I'm going to be integrating some more project based learning with a grade 11/12 group in math, to hopefully stimulate them to be a little more innovative and creative, and how they can use the tools and technology available to them to create these projects. I haven't had many successful PBL experiences - if anyone who reads this has anything to say, please leave a comment below! Or, you can mention me on Google plus - https://plus.google.com/+DwayneSchnellCSUD!
I'm also a new member on Intel's PBL community - engage.intel.com/welcome
I find it difficult to execute PBL activities in the upper levels, since most of the math is often higher than most other PBL resources already available (usually for middle school levels). This is partly due to the more technical and theoretical nature of the math and science, limited equipment, and limited time. We blast through new concepts daily in the traditional teaching method.
